I told someone in an email that I write or post<\/strong> on things that I am interested in like my hobby (Amateur Radio), travel, daily life, investing learning, and \u201cWhat pisses me off\u201d. In my reading to day<\/strong> I came across this paragraph<\/strong> in an article<\/strong> from \u201cThe Reformed Broker Blog<\/a>\u201d. This paragraph<\/strong> stood out because I do travel a lot, and I have a hobby of watching people<\/strong> where every I am. I do not have an IPod but do have an android pad, an android phone and each can play me music of my choice or play games on etc.\u2026 but I do find it fascinating to sometimes just set<\/strong> and watch. If you do this enough you will see some of the strangest things (at least to you they are strange due to your own little box of awareness). To that paragraph:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe next time you travel by air, take a look at the airport corridor.\u00a0 I’ve noticed increasingly that everyone seems to be tuned into listen to their iPod\/iPad\/iPhone.\u00a0 They don’t engage in civil discourse, even to pass the time<\/strong>, as they don’t have to–they can listen to exactly what they want to listen too.\u00a0 Given that we can watch whomever we want on TV<\/strong>\/cable–and most people want to watch things that validate their own way of thinking–there’s no longer any need<\/strong> for exposure to a viewpoint other than what one<\/strong> already believes.\u00a0 That’s not a formula for compromise, and the result is the mess we have in the US<\/strong>, where we’re fast becoming ungovernable.\u00a0 (Call this the iPod-iPhone phenomenon.)\u00a0 I have to wonder if the same thing<\/strong> is happening in the EU<\/strong>, perhaps even more so because of the striking regional\/cultural differences present, which surpass our own by quite a bit<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

I too have noticed this non social existence.\u00a0 So many people<\/strong> today are focused on their own little sphere.\u00a0 We do not \u201cengage\u201d with others.\u00a0 In fact, even when we do \u201cengage\u201d with other people<\/strong> it is generally with people<\/strong> of like mind, so we do not have to disagree.\u00a0 I associate that characteristic to the \u201cME NOW\u201d attitude<\/strong> we have come to accept.\u00a0 With the advent and proliferation of TV<\/strong> \u2013 telling us what to think and believe, Sat radio<\/strong> allowing us to focus on \u201cour own\u201d music, and the Internet now making it possible for us to focus on what we \u201cthink we want\u201d, we have become a horrible mass of single minded souls that just can not get to an agreement \u2013 case in point<\/strong> our own political leaders.\u00a0 So far in the past 12 years, maybe more, I do not think they actually have come to an agreement on anything.\u00a0 They have put out legislation on what appeared to be agreements, but in actuality, were facial agreement, where each politician of influence got something special out of the legislation that would help<\/strong> them get re-elected.\u00a0 It was not good for the general public<\/strong> in any place<\/strong> but where they were and it meant votes and nothing else to them.\u00a0\u00a0 Once it was out we all come to realize what a mess it is causing but we can\u2019t even get agreement to fix it.<\/p>\n
