I remember while growing up about several finer points or life that seem to have been left behind<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0 All of them hinge on ETIQUETTE<\/a>.\u00a0 <\/strong>You know \u201ca code<\/strong> of behavior<\/strong> that delineates expectations for social behavior<\/a> according to contemporary conventional<\/a> norms<\/a> within a society<\/a>, social class<\/a>, or group<\/a>\u201d.\u00a0 I know I am not the greatest one<\/strong> to talk<\/strong> about this subject.\u00a0 I, on numerous occasions, have shown a huge lack<\/strong> of the same topic here.\u00a0 However, I try harder every day to show<\/strong> respect and give a little more than I receive, which is not too hard to do.<\/p>\n

What happened to those days when we were all smacked hard for not saying \u201cplease\u201d and \u201cthank-you\u201d, or holding the door for our elders, giving up our seat for someone with a greater need<\/strong>, or just giving for no real reason at all? Oh yea they would put the parents<\/strong> in jail now for abuse, or the giver would be watched carefully as they must surely want something in return.\u00a0 We even have commercials on television now trying to \u201cbring back\u201d this lost art<\/strong> of giving with out expecting return.\u00a0 I know my parents<\/strong> would be serving a life sentence for abuse on todays criteria, and I do not mean to say they ever abused me or my siblings.\u00a0 They did do a much better job of teaching us respect is earned by the amount of respect you give.\u00a0 In fact<\/strong> I think they were less abusive than a lot<\/strong> of my friends parents<\/strong> but we knew if we crossed that line we were in really big trouble and they didn\u2019t just say we were in trouble they meant it.\u00a0 We were likely to get double chores, extra forced study<\/strong> or a real \u201cgrounding\u201d for not showing the proper amount of respect and ETIQUETTE<\/strong> private as well as public.\u00a0 Chores= things kids had to do before they could watch TV<\/strong>, or go to town, or \u2026. have desert.\u00a0 Today, I am not sure most of the parents<\/strong> have the same measure for this as my parents<\/strong> had.\u00a0 I know I was a backslider on the enforcement level, my kids will not think so but they didn\u2019t see what it was like at my house when I was young.\u00a0 The lack<\/strong> of enforcement actually got worse as I got older, I am sorry to say but I tried.\u00a0 It got easier to just look the other way and hope things would get better as I didn\u2019t want the neighbors to think I was abusive and turn<\/strong> me in.<\/p>\n

Our society has not only lost IT, in the common venues but in other such things as \u201cAmateur Radio Operation\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 I have read numerous articles in the past months from other Hams about operation on the bands.\u00a0 Although in contesting what do you expect.\u00a0 It seems contesting, as in professional sports, politics and finance, is a game to see just how little \u201crespect\u201d you can show<\/strong>\u00a0 to others while aiming to win.\u00a0 This article<\/strong>\u00a0 points to the same failure:<\/p>\n

\u201cEthics and Operating Procedures for the Radio Amateur\u201d\u00a0 from the ARRL?<\/a><\/p>\n

The article from The arrl page \u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>\"\"\u00a0RST \u2013 meaningful or obsolete?<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>about the RST<\/strong> code<\/strong> may even bound on poor etiquette and a true lack<\/strong> of reading what it means for R-S- and T?\u00a0 I am sure it is not Ready –\u00a0 Set \u2013 Transmit\u2026 !<\/p>\n

It seems while working for my license, way back when, I listened a lot<\/strong>, studied a lot<\/strong> and was mentored to do even more of monitoring good operations and try my best to emulate that.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 ID<\/strong> every 10 minutes, try your best to not talk<\/strong> over others(listen first), apologize even when you didn\u2019t think you did wrong, give credit to others and study<\/strong> more even when you think you know it all.\u00a0 Maybe we need<\/strong> to step back and try that again?\u00a0 – WD0AJG<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
