When we lived in Colorado before we lived down south\u2026 even though we were in THE VALLEY (San Luis Valley) for some time<\/a> we didn’t get what happened in the mountains.\u00a0 The valley was a very dry, flat but very high (7500 ft.) area so we didn\u2019t get too many snow<\/a> storms<\/a> there in the spring.\u00a0 We also lived out on the Arkansas valley and we had some storms<\/a> but nothing after April 1.\u00a0 It usually was rain by then if we got any.\u00a0 I do remember one<\/a> spring storm that was in early to mid March?\u00a0 1977.\u00a0 I was in Denver for some meetings and it started to snow<\/a> pretty heavy so they ended the meeting early and I jumped into my \u201cgovernment\u201d truck and headed south\u2026 I remember that the traffic was thinning as I came past Castle Rock and then as I came off the Monument Hill they were closing the interstate so it was a big storm.\u00a0 I was headed toward LaJunta for home and wasn\u2019t going to stop but once I hit the Springs the snow<\/strong> stopped and it was clear sailing through Pueblo.\u00a0 But as I turned east along Hwy 50 and cleared out of any hills I ran into dust storms<\/strong> that made it near impossible to stay on the road or even see the road\u2026 I blundered on till I did get into LA Junta, parked that government<\/a> truck got into my Ramcharger and got back home in time<\/a> to help wet towels and put them around most of the doors and windows as the dust was horrible.\u00a0 It was about 4 weeks before Amy was born and we were having some fun\u2026 not.\u00a0 I had a 40 ft. tower up that only held my dipole in the air but the wind took that down.\u00a0 Whipped it hard enough to break the guy wires I had on the north side.\u00a0 I don\u2019t remember much more about that storm other than we didn\u2019t get but very little snow, enough to have brown crust on things, friends<\/a> about 20 miles north got enough that the drift was to the eve of their house.\u00a0 Seems that the \u201cblizzard\u201d lasted about 12 hours or more, I know we had the high winds for at least that much.\u00a0 We\u00a0 survived and it is now only a small memory of things we lived through.<\/p>\n

Here we are getting \u201csnow<\/strong> showers\u201d nearly ever week but still not what I would call<\/a> a lot of moisture involved. Seems that every 3 days or so we get put back into a winter<\/a> storm warning or something like that\u2026 way back when we didn\u2019t know about winter<\/a> storm warning, We would get a warning that this one<\/a> is a big one<\/strong> so get ready but not as much warning as today.\u00a0 Locally, It was damn nice Sunday and Monday and I got a few things done outside then it fell apart again.\u00a0 from 70 to 40 pretty quick\u2026Had a contractor come to look at some changes and additions to the deck at 4:30 pm and it was cool I had to grab a jacket but nothing in the air and he left by 5:30 as it was just starting to \u201cdrip\u201d but then things fell apart.\u00a0 Tuesday it snow<\/strong> balled then snowed\u2026 My friends<\/a> in Scotland would call<\/a> the snow<\/strong> balls \u201chail\u201d\u2026 here some call<\/strong> it \u2018\u201d”grapple\u201d, I think?\u00a0 not sure as that doesn\u2019t fit other than it is not snow, not rain and not really hard hail as we know it\u2026 I prefer tiny snow<\/strong> balls\u2026<\/p>\n

and as for the snow<\/strong> showers\u2026yep they look like this coming in..<\/p>\n

but once it got started and had laid down about an inch of snow<\/strong> balls it went full tilt snow<\/strong> flakes that got as big as 50 cent pieces\u2026<\/p>\n

Hard to picture them but assume most of those splotches are about 10 ft. away\u2026 by the time<\/strong> it quit we had maybe 5 or 6 inches of the snow<\/strong> in top of what ever and then\u2026 the next day<\/a> by noon it was pretty much all melted as it got back up to near 60 yesterday\u2026<\/p>\n

This is a totally different climate up here on the Palmer Divide.\u00a0 Just hoping that the summers are more like being a bit further west\u2026 nice and cool in the evening and decent (70\u2019s) during the day\u2026 that seems to be a ways off with the current repeated snows and all?<\/p>\n

Oh and got the notice of the old high school reunion \u201ccelebrating 50 years in the current school building\u201d\u00a0 ouch\u2026 I remember the old building through about 8th grade?<\/p>\n
