Today we had another early trip planned.  Off to see the Donkey Derby days in Cripple Creek<\/a>..  We were to meet up with GS# 3 and his dad for a view of the derby for kids and and a few other things\u2026 We did take an alternate route up and made it Through Guffey.<\/a><\/p>\n

Interesting old<\/a> town and the buildings in the main part are still old<\/a> , many wore out but helps maintain the rustic nature of the old<\/strong> town.<\/p>\n

On the way up Hwy 9 this old<\/strong> homestead caught my eye\u2026 <\/p>\n

Lots of old<\/strong> STUFF in the down town\u2026 <\/p>\n

Not sure what the tire repair shop does but they had a lot of stuff to work on.<\/p>\n

Has to be a story about the waiting coffins on the other side<\/a> of the road as well? <\/p>\n

They have a cabin for short people<\/a> in town too!  oh wait, I need<\/a> to make the politically correct with \u201cheight challenged people\u201d. <\/p>\n

Back down the road a bit I found this cabin , maybe one<\/a> of the smallest I have seen? <\/p>\n

GS#3 is happy to be out and riding\u2026 <\/p>\n

They had a Viet Nam era helicopter there with some old<\/strong> time vets to explain everything as well.  This one<\/a> was flying while I was in school. 67 to 71.   But GS#3 got to check out the seat and look it over. <\/p>\n

Here he was watching the Donkeys and ready for a petting but they were more interested in some feeding going<\/a> on to the other side<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As we walked around town we found out that Cripple Creek<\/strong> is the place where root beer<\/a> floats were invented\u2026 so says the poster\u2026 sounded good to me.<\/p>\n

Saw this dog out and everywhere they went it tried to get under the cover\u2026 guess it has a thing about sin shine so it needs the sun<\/a> glasses?<\/p>\n

In our walking around I spotted a p lace the served up green chili so I had the \u201cslopper\u201d a burger smothered with chili.  It was ok but not as good as those from Big Burger World or even the Rose Bud Caf\u00e9\u2026 <\/p>\n

GS#3 and his dad had some huge corn dogs and a plate of circle cut potatoes chips\u2026 didn\u2019t get the picture of them but the hot dogs in the corn coating were huge half pounders it looked like. <\/p>\n

on the way out caught this guy handling his donkeys\u2026 figure he has been out too long?<\/p>\n

We finished up our visit to Cripple Creek<\/strong> and then took the long way home (on the highway) down to the Springs to get cheap gas.  ON our way down we spotted this sign in the window of a store in Manitou? <\/p>\n

So if your in need<\/a> of potions and such\u2026 they got a great sale going<\/a> on right now\u2026 So was our Sunday visits. oh and I went to the store and got some root beer<\/a> to have with our ice cream tonight\u2026 you know Cripple Creek<\/strong> specials\u2026 root beer<\/strong> floats.<\/p>\n
