Well on Sunday we opted to take a drive.  I was supposed to choose but gave three options\u2026 <\/p>\n

1.  go up Beaver Creek to where I might try to go fishing\u2026? short trip<\/p>\n

2. Make a run<\/a> up and around Lake San Isabel and see what has changed up that road\u2026 ? not too long but longer<\/p>\n

3. Run up to Salida and do a little site seeing that way..  longer drive.<\/p>\n

The final options up the Ark river<\/a> to Salida and visit the old<\/a> camp grounds and then head back.   I didn\u2019t get many pics this day<\/a> as I was just enjoying the scenery\u2026 wanted to stop<\/a> and get pics of the rafters as they have added some new modes\u2026 the usual big rubber rafts, and some smaller inflatables as well as the usual kayaks were seen but we also so plenty of people on stand up paddle boards\u2026 now that would be real hard on a fast moving river<\/a> like the Ark is now\u2026 but never got the pictures\u2026 did get an old<\/a> cabin.<\/p>\n

It has set on the other side<\/a> of the river<\/strong> for a long time\u2026<\/p>\n

We also made a stop<\/a> in Howard and read the history board\u2026 guess I had never been on the other side<\/a> of the river<\/strong> there and that was where the real Howard town was..<\/p>\n

A few old<\/strong> buildings, the old<\/strong> church\/school building on the historic records..<\/p>\n

I saw this guy on the rock watching\u2026 so stopped, went back and grabbed a picture, then noticed in the edit that it is wearing a tracking collar\u2026 first time<\/a> for us in 40 years of driving the Ark river<\/strong> between Salida and Canon that we saw goats up there.  Have seen them in several other places, notably north of Canon on Shelf road but never saw them up the Ark river.  Several more were down at the river<\/strong> getting a drink on this very hot day<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I seem to be slipping in my \u201cCarl\u201d pictures lately\u2026 while in Salida we tried a Mexican restaurant and it was pretty good.  We thought about trying the burger joint at the old<\/strong> Carls ( 50 burgers) but when we found out the costs we quickly exited.  A couple with one child were leaving and he warned us that they had 3 burgers, 2 fries, and 2 drinks plus a water and it was over $50 \u2026 for burgers?  hell no\u2026 so we went back up the street to the mex and had a really good meal\u2026 this had been a combo plate ($11) for a home made chili relleno and chicken<\/a> chimichanga with the rice and beans an a small bit of salad stuff\u2026 Seems prices are way up in Salida\u2026 didn\u2019t use to be that high up there\u2026 but oh well\u2026 and it is start of Fib Ark racing week?  maybe they have a season<\/a> and off season<\/a> menu pricing.<\/p>\n

It was a nice day<\/strong> and we got back fairly early\u2026 spotted this big storm brewing just past Pikes Peak\u2026 and since it was so hot out (100 deg) I went in under the air conditioner and took a nap\u2026 <\/p>\n

The evening was for me to fix and cook more of my chicken<\/a> specials and stuffed jalapeno peppers\u2026 and hit the sack.  Got a drive tomorrow.<\/p>\n
