the HF antennas mount for the RV"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Years ago I built a mobile antenna mount for a big Screw driver type mobile&#8230; it was not intended to be used will on the road, only when we were stationary at some point&#8230;&#160; The structure I built was hinged at the bottom and would lay down, and had a sliding push up to get the old <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>antennas<\/strong> coil above the rig roof&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-wwiG7OVLCls\/Vt48NL5Ne5I\/AAAAAAAAFkc\/VHBhmHbH0rA\/s1600\/Apr29%252410.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-wwiG7OVLCls\/Vt48NL5Ne5I\/AAAAAAAAFkc\/VHBhmHbH0rA\/s400\/Apr29%252410.jpg?resize=300%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At this <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/point\/\" title=\"View all articles about point here\">point<\/a> it was on the old RV, mounted to the hitch <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/extension\/\" title=\"View all articles about extension here\">extension<\/a> by big Ubolts.&#160; and not pushed up so the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>antennas<\/strong> was below legal height and protected&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>I had it mounted similar on the new <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>RV<\/strong> &#8211; on the hitch with grounds and such but that was in the way of the Rigs Engine access (being I had moved from a gas engine to diesel pusher)&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-erL7AxmSjpg\/Vt48xw5NbWI\/AAAAAAAAFkg\/lhZEfy-aLAQ\/s1600\/IMG_1162.JPG?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/1.bp.blogspot.com\/-erL7AxmSjpg\/Vt48xw5NbWI\/AAAAAAAAFkg\/lhZEfy-aLAQ\/s320\/IMG_1162.JPG?resize=313%2C320&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"313\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a>0<\/p>\n<p>That was the base piece with out the laydown-push up part&#8230; but I had always needed to get it out of the way and since I did not use it mobile it could be stored away till I was able to do a little radio so? looking for options I figured I would <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/need\/\" title=\"View all articles about need here\">need<\/a> to build something else, I played with ideas about drive over <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/ground\/\" title=\"View all articles about ground here\">ground<\/a> mounts, looked for structure underneath the RV, etc&#8230; then I saw it&#8230; the big mud flap was put on with a huge 2&#215;2 box tubing piece bolted to the frame &#8211; very solid and secure?&#160; I played a little and <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/ground\/\" title=\"View all articles about ground here\">ground<\/a> down a bad weld over <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/run\/\" title=\"View all articles about run here\">run<\/a> on the <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/one\/\" title=\"View all articles about one here\">one<\/a> end and the hitch <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/extension\/\" title=\"View all articles about extension here\">extension<\/a> I had form earlier days fit perfect&#8230; hum&#8230; ok, so can I cut the bottom off the other piece and swing it so it was out of the way of the <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/side\/\" title=\"View all articles about side here\">side<\/a> access compartment, etc&#8230; with a little grinding and cutting It all came together as a change &#8211; <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/side\/\" title=\"View all articles about side here\">side<\/a> mount- <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>extension<\/strong> pole for my newer Diamond BB7V.&#160; (also a collapsible HF antennas).&#160; and this is how it all (less the BB7V as I didn&#8217;t get it out yet from storage)&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-rniCVLM3_-s\/Vt4-OkNS14I\/AAAAAAAAFko\/Vc2OlnFMw58\/s1600\/SAM_3764.JPG?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/3.bp.blogspot.com\/-rniCVLM3_-s\/Vt4-OkNS14I\/AAAAAAAAFko\/Vc2OlnFMw58\/s640\/SAM_3764.JPG?resize=386%2C640&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"386\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here are all the pieces I need&#8230; the 9inch hitch <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>extension<\/strong> the two slid pieces of square tubing and the square (2&#215;2) mount that allows fold over&#8230;&#160; with the angle piece bolted to that after being cut off the bottom and moved to the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>side<\/strong> , using the previous large U-bolts&#8230; nothing new purchased here..<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-YlwbZel3vCY\/Vt4-tnX-FbI\/AAAAAAAAFks\/L0j1Bh5a2bc\/s1600\/SAM_3766.JPG?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-YlwbZel3vCY\/Vt4-tnX-FbI\/AAAAAAAAFks\/L0j1Bh5a2bc\/s320\/SAM_3766.JPG?resize=263%2C320&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"263\" height=\"320\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here I have the 9 inch hitch <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>extension<\/strong> and the extra pieces off the bottom from before, and the fold down piece3 I had welded up (in 2000) .&#160; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-U1JdBMiNkC0\/Vt4_FLZHrtI\/AAAAAAAAFkw\/ukEx2mwvsSY\/s1600\/SAM_3761.JPG?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/-U1JdBMiNkC0\/Vt4_FLZHrtI\/AAAAAAAAFkw\/ukEx2mwvsSY\/s320\/SAM_3761.JPG?resize=320%2C240&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"320\" height=\"240\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>side<\/strong> view with the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>extension<\/strong> bottom in the fold over&#8230; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-51croc3zZ9o\/Vt4_Q5K5loI\/AAAAAAAAFk0\/zjmJOTaV45k\/s1600\/SAM_3759.JPG?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/4.bp.blogspot.com\/-51croc3zZ9o\/Vt4_Q5K5loI\/AAAAAAAAFk0\/zjmJOTaV45k\/s400\/SAM_3759.JPG?resize=300%2C400&#038;ssl=1\" width=\"300\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here, hard to see, is the extended unit that comes about 8 inches short of the <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/roof\/\" title=\"View all articles about roof here\">roof<\/a> level of the RV&#8230;that should put all but the loading coil on the BB7V above the <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/roof\/\" title=\"View all articles about roof here\">roof<\/a> and on a mount that is sturdy enough to handle just about anything wind wise at that height&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>I had played with the idea of aluminum extensions, flag poles (fiberglass) etc&#8230; and other things that could work but none of them seemed strong enough to hold that much <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>antennas<\/strong> at that height if there happened to be a 30 mph wind when I wasn&#8217;t prepared&#8230; it has happened and several times my short TV dish and ? other things have been blown over, away, etc&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>So I&#160; <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/need\/\" title=\"View all articles about need here\">need<\/a> to come up with a decent counterpoise&#8230; looking at at least <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/one\/\" title=\"View all articles about one here\">one<\/a> <a class=\"StrictlyAutoTagAnchor\" href=\"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/tag\/run\/\" title=\"View all articles about run here\">run<\/a> of 70 to 95 ft. of PVC coated AGW18 stranded that is super flex to lay pretty flat on the ground, laid down and around the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>RV<\/strong> so as not to be obvious or a hazard&#8230; if that is not enough will get another set to lay the other way , around the RV&#8230; that should be easy to pick (roll) up and the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>antennas<\/strong> and support will all store in minimal space in <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> of the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>RV<\/strong> compartments when not in use. <\/p>\n<p>Now to get the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>RV<\/strong> out and the radio in it and do some remote operations&#8230; Actually this setup might even work ok on the hitch of the jeep from some &quot;higher&quot; the road, only when we were stationary at some point&#8230;&#160; The structure I built was hinged at the bottom and would lay down, and had a sliding push up to get the old antennas coil above the rig roof&#8230;  At this point it was on the old RV, mounted to the hitch extension by big Ubolts.&#160; and not pushed up so the antennas was below legal height and protected&#8230; I had it mounted
