At least it was not as cold as it could have been\u2026 but yesterday we finally got the replacement door<\/a> in for the kitchen<\/strong> remodel\u2026 I am not sure it is exactly what we had planned but maybe it will grow on us\u2026 We had several compromises to get the door<\/a> replace from the one<\/a> that opened the wrong way for the kitchen<\/strong> vs. living room area\u2026<\/p>\n

The door<\/strong> opens on the left but the divide between the living and kitchen<\/strong> comes in the middle of that side.  so we put some tile<\/strong> down at the entrance but it was always awkward coming and going\u2026 <\/p>\n

So in the remodel<\/strong> we opted to replace the small odd area of tile<\/strong> with wood so the split was all the way to the door\u2026 , move the floor register, and replace the door<\/strong> with one<\/a> that now opens to the kitchen\u2026 unfortunately the style of original door<\/strong> created a problem with the replacement so we had to go to a single with side<\/a> lights<\/strong> as we didn\u2019t think just open on the right with it being so close to the cabinet would be any better than open on the wrong side\u2026 Today, damn cold, etc.\u2026 they came with the replacement door\u2026 should have been hear over a month ago?  Anyway they opened up a big hole and it sure got cold\u2026<\/p>\n

put a 6 x 6 hole in your house<\/a> and find out how cold it gets\u2026 well, it wasn\u2019t all that bad\u2026 never got below 60 in the house<\/a> but geez when I get cold I stay cold and takes hours for me to warm up\u2026 the main part of living room warmed fine with the fireplace but the other areas were still cold late at night\u2026 although nice and toasty this morning and the new door<\/strong> is much more solid and sealed so fewer leaks over there\u2026 that is nice<\/p>\n

And the new door<\/strong>. Opens on the tile<\/strong> of the kitchen.  Doesn\u2019t crowd the living room area, and is really solid compared to the last<\/a> one<\/strong> but I think we gave up a little bit<\/a> of glass area in the swap,  It is a huge door\u2026 42 inches wide but that was a trade off since they didn\u2019t make side<\/a> lights<\/strong> bigger than 14 inch other than really expensive special order and this was expensive enough\u2026 I found out that a 36 and a 42 door<\/strong> share the same center glass area\u2026 when you think you are getting a bigger door<\/strong> it is all bigger frame not bigger glass\u2026 oh well\u2026 <\/p>\n

It is in, solid and way better at air tight than the old one\u2026 now for a bit<\/a> more paint and we will be done with the remodel, other than paying the final bill\u2026 OUCH!\u2026 <\/p>\n

At the same time I had the two shop doors replaced as they were rotting out at the bottom<\/p>\n

These are all composite frames and Fiberglass solid doors\u2026 nothing in there that can rot now\u2026 and so far, I can see a big difference in the seals, tightness, etc.\u2026 and the one<\/strong> thing I learned is that you really need experienced, specially trained people to put in doors and windows if you want them to be solid, sealed and last\u2026 I am hoping now that these last<\/a> longer than I do\u2026 <\/p>\n
