One of the most important considerations for a motorhome<\/strong> enthusiast is that he or she can pack correctly for a trip<\/strong>. Because of the limited space in such vehicles, bringing the right contents is essential. Not bringing an item that you require can have a serious negative impact on your trip, whilst bringing unwanted contents will eat into the limited space available in your van. It is essential that you develop a contents checklist<\/strong> and use it every time you set<\/strong> off in your motorhome<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

I maintain a simple, yet effective, contents checklist<\/strong> on a computer spreadsheet. It is something that I review regularly and have refined it to suit me and my families needs over fifteen or so years. Prior to going<\/strong> on a journey, I will print it and start preparing the vehicle up to a week in advance. The night before I set<\/strong> off, I will do one<\/strong> final check, that each item on my list is present in the van. There are many ways to construct your list, but here are some things to consider.<\/p>\n

Firstly, think of what’s required to get you to your destination. This could include maps, satellite navigation systems, ferry tickets, campsite booking forms, drivers license etc. If going<\/strong> abroad consider any legal obligations in the foreign countries you will be visiting. You may also want to include a vehicle safety check<\/strong> at this point, for example checking the tyres, oil and water<\/strong> levels.<\/p>\n

Secondly, consider meal times, food<\/strong> preparation and eating during your journey<\/strong>. Have you the appropriate cutlery and delph in your motorhome<\/strong>. Sometimes bringing one<\/strong> cup, one<\/strong> plate etc per person is a good idea as it prevents a build up of unwashed items during a journey<\/strong>. Will you bring all your food<\/strong> with you for the entire journey, or are you going<\/strong> to a destination where you can purchase your food<\/strong>. Will you be cooking – do you need pots, pans, cooking oils, cooking sauces, pasta, rice etc.<\/p>\n

Thirdly, consider sanitation requirements for all. The main consideration is do you fully or partially fill your water<\/strong> tank prior to setting off. This will be decided by the availability of water<\/strong> as you progress into your journey<\/strong>. Note, filling your tank with water<\/strong> will negatively impact your fuel efficiency. Don’t forget washing, shaving, grooming products for all the family and towels.<\/p>\n

Finally, consider the personal items required by all. Bring appropriate clothing for day and night. Bring appropriate blankets pillows etc. Bring entertainment for all, which could include games, videos, books and more for the duration of the holiday.<\/p>\n
