Today was the first of a 2 day<\/strong> Grand Parent University here.  We did that back in 2013 and are doing it again this year<\/strong> with the oldest GS.  He likes it, gets to see some things about university courses of study that might be of interest and we\u2026. get to spend some money on him that is not for a toy or ?  throw out gift\u2026 <\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t an early start\u2026 but still out and off to breakfast \u2013 his choice\u2026 Whataburger for the pancakes\u2026 then to check in before the start\u2026 a lot<\/strong> of the folks came in yesterday and checked in early \u2026 they had a trip to the museum and a swim party\u2026 GS1 couldn\u2019t get here that early so we opted for the actual start\u2026<\/p>\n

We were a bit<\/strong> early\u2026 so \u2026 thumb exercises\u2026<\/p>\n

They had the therapy dogs in the area before the start\u2026 seems this student was out late last night?  the therapy worked\u2026 after petting the dog\u2026 he fell asleep on the stage\u2026 and was truly asleep\u2026<\/p>\n

After the opening few speeches we got to go have lunch<\/strong> at one<\/strong> of the lunch<\/strong> rooms\u2026 same one<\/strong> I went to about 40 some y ears ago\u2026 when I lived in Parker Hall my Freshman year<\/strong> but it sure didn\u2019t look like this\u2026 although I think they serve the same old food?  <\/p>\n

We got to do Plants and People this year\u2026 and here we arrived at the Botanic Garden for a little lesson and garden walk\u2026 we were real lucky\u2026 it wasn\u2019t raining, it wasn\u2019t hot, (although the humidity was horrible) and we got to do it out side\u2026<\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t know there were \u201csoap\u201d trees but the berries here when rubbed will act just like soap\u2026 <\/p>\n

flowers every where and they were to pick 6 and save so they could make a book marker by pounding them to juice\u2026<\/p>\n

Back in the class room and he was eyeing the camera\u2026 literally\u2026<\/p>\n

This is the position his mouth was in much of the afternoon\u2026 Here we are starting to build a flower<\/strong> and learn all the parts\u2026 <\/p>\n

I made one<\/strong> too\u2026 \u2026 this was the final product of our creation\u2026<\/p>\n

We then got our bus ride back to the dorms and rested up a bit<\/strong> then off to have the group picture<\/strong> taken\u2026<\/p>\n

We were on the balcony of the Union, waiting here\u2026 seems a lot<\/strong> of people<\/strong> can\u2019t or didn\u2019t read their schedule\u2026 \u201cpicture<\/strong> at 6:20pm\u2026 well it was well after 6:30 when they took some pictures and we still think there were people<\/strong> coming \u2026 after the picture<\/strong> back to the Alumni center for a \u201ctailgate\u201d \u2026 I wouldn\u2019t call it a tailgate as much as buffet for pizza and salad\u2026 it was a decent enough meal but I think of tailgate as someone grilling stuff outside with lots of great smells, and things like that\u2026 guess that is hared to do for 250 plus\u2026 on this scale\u2026 It was quit full and the lines long and the wait\u2026 pretty bad\u2026 but we ate, it was ok, and the pep rally after was ok as well\u2026they brought in some of the summer working athletes\u2026 <\/p>\n

He got his shirt signed by Pistol Pete\u2026 so that was ok\u2026 I remember several years ago he didn\u2019t even want to get close to the guy shooting the gun\u2026 ha! but tonight there were not shots\u2026 it was a bit<\/strong> better crowd and no need for shooting\u2026 <\/p>\n

After dinner we came home\u2026 our beds here are a bit<\/strong> better than the ones in the dorms\u2026 and quieter\u2026 <\/p>\n
