Today was the Green country Hamfest<\/a>\u2026 I made it last year<\/strong> and it was interesting and fun so I figured to make it again this year.  I had asked Sherrie if she wanted to go as there would be more than \u2026 Ham radio<\/strong> stuff going on but when the alarm went off at 6 she punched me and went right back to sleep\u2026 that was the sign she was not going\u2026 <\/p>\n

I got up, let the dogs out, fed the dogs, put them back and told my dear sleeping wife, I was leaving\u2026 (note: when I got home<\/strong> she said she never heard me leave?).  I grabbed a quick biscuit for breakfast and hit the road\u2026 it is not all that far to Claremore\u2026 about 90 miles I guess\u2026 and it is all 4 line once you get out of town (if you take the toll road).  I got there about 8:30 and checked in and put my \u201cnon-winning\u201d ticket in the hopper\u2026 of all the years I have gone to things like this that have drawings\u2026 I have never won anything\u2026 I am so lucky!<\/p>\n

I had just enough time<\/strong> to make a quick walk down two rows then I would head into the meeting room as my main interest was in the 3 morning forums on Geekology stuff\u2026 (Weather Watch training, Digital radio, ARRL updates).   the walk down the rows indicated that the picking of quality items was already done and the antiques were still out\u2026<\/p>\n

They have a nice large arena to hold this function in\u2026 and not all the stuff is Geek stuff.  I noticed one<\/strong> full table of knitting stuff?  guess the wives have to have something to do\u2026 <\/p>\n

This one<\/strong> has been around awhile\u2026 Hamarlund\u2026 most of that stuff was old when I started hamming (1977)\u2026 <\/p>\n

I got my learning in for weather stuff, got a little more info on digital radio<\/strong> things and such then went back out and made a more controlled walk down the isle\u2026 but still was not impressed with the stuff on display.  I did spend $5 on some wire connectors I needed for the motorhome lights\u2026 I did get to talk to a few people<\/strong> I had not seen in some time, but not as many as last year\u2026 then I was out of there by 1:15pm\u2026 Most of the people<\/strong> were packing up to leave anyway\u2026 if the closing bell is 3 they are almost always packing by noon\u2026 <\/p>\n

I grabbed a quick sandwich for lunch and started my trek home<\/strong> but this time<\/strong> I took the \u201cnon-toll-road\u201d route\u2026 and came back down Hwy 51\u2026 through the big city of Yale\u2026 I don\u2019t remember getting off the main road<\/strong> other than to drive by the house\/museum of Jim Thorpe<\/a>\u2026 since I had seen that I wanted to just drive down main street<\/strong> and I noticed an interesting building<\/strong> off that way\u2026 so down main I went and boy\u2026 this town is old and wore out\u2026 and they have an abundance of churches\u2026 and multiple Baptist places?  one<\/strong> in the down town building<\/strong> had people<\/strong> coming out so I didn\u2019t picture<\/strong> that one<\/strong> but I got this one<\/strong> up the street<\/strong> a block.. (First Baptist)<\/p>\n

Looks more like it should have been the post office or maybe city hall but with the stained glass it had to be a church\u2026 lots of stained glass and a gold dome?  and there was another Baptist church across the street?  Freewill maybe? don\u2019t\u2019 remember now?  should have got a picture<\/strong> of it but it was not as photo genic as this one\u2026 down town it is just a lot of old empty buildings for the most part..<\/p>\n

Sad that so many window are out as this will soon have the inside of this building<\/strong> falling down, if it hasn\u2019t already\u2026 <\/p>\n

I had not known that they grew cotton in this country but they must have as there is an old Cotton Gin in Yale\u2026<\/p>\n

Well, that was enough excite for me so I moved on home\u2026 got in about 3:30 or so\u2026 sat down, read the paper and then took a nap\u2026 it was a long hard day\u2026ha!<\/p>\n

For dinner we even got more exciting\u2026 take out Chinese\u2026 and that was the day of Geekology this weekend\u2026<\/p>\n
