day 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>12-8-2010<\/p>\n<p>Todays adventure started with pulling into port.&nbsp; I had expected a bigger <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">port<\/strong> but <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">Barbados<\/strong> at Bridgeport is not a very big port, and actually we dock in the industrial off-load doc and have to walk way back to get out of the area.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Cruise Ship dock, Barbados?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;]<a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5128.temp.domains\/~ishmaels\/blog3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_2164.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2164\" style=\"border-top: 0px; It was a slow start as Ethan had a reaction to something and needed to&nbsp; visit the doctor.&nbsp; Only an allergic reaction.&nbsp; We&nbsp; then got out stuff, lined out, and took off.&nbsp; By-passing the tour hawkers and cabs we went for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.life-n-styles-barbados.com\/barbados-buses.html#barbadostransportboardbus\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cbus station\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Barbados bus station a few blocks from the cruise ship dock&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5128.temp.domains\/~ishmaels\/blog3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_2167.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2167\" style=\"border-top: 0px; Ryan and Brooke had figured out where they wanted to go, I was not so sure but we struck out alone anyway.&nbsp; At the same <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">station<\/strong> Sean and Amy and Ethan took a different bus to the beach of choice to see the turtles.&nbsp; After a lot of confusion on our part we found the right bus and it started the journey up the island to the \u201cW<a href=\"http:\/\/www.barbados.org\/welchman.htm\" target=\"_blank\">elchman Hall Gully<\/a>\u201d.&nbsp; I know it sounds like a joke but that is where we were headed.&nbsp; There was some conversation about a rum factory \u2013 which I had hoped we weren\u2019t <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">going<\/strong> to but being deaf I never really know what is <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">going<\/strong> on \u2013 Just shut up and tag along.<\/p>\n<p>The trip to the \u201cgully\u201d was a slow and arduous one.&nbsp; The buses and roads are not made for speed (going&nbsp; up hill) and the <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">road<\/strong> is barely wide enough for the bus and a bike but they were running two lanes and fortunately none of us go smacked?&nbsp; As we kept getting farther and farther away from the dock it kept looking like we were <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">going<\/strong> to be stuck out in nowhere with no way back and miss our boat leaving.&nbsp; I am not fond of trips to unknown places with out direction and then getting off the bus in nowhere and having to walk another \u00bc mile to get to the entrance of the park that was not well-marked, but we made it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5128.temp.domains\/~ishmaels\/blog3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_2170.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2170\" style=\"border-top: 0px; But the vegetation was very interesting for an old flat-lander.&nbsp; In the US we normally wouldn\u2019t walk down a <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">road<\/strong> that looked this Prosperous, can you remember \u201c&nbsp; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Deliverance-Jon-Voight\/dp\/6305558159\/ref=cm_lmf_tit_12\">Deliverance<\/a>&#8220;<\/strong> Actually Ryan had come to see the monkeys \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/images?hl=en&amp;q=barbados+green+monkeys&amp;um=1&amp;ie=UTF-8&amp;source=univ&amp;ei=wyAITbawFIaKlwf71sTMAQ&amp;sa=X&amp;oi=image_result_group&amp;ct=title&amp;resnum=1&amp;ved=0CCkQsAQwAA&amp;biw=1366&amp;bih=643\" target=\"_blank\">Barbadian Green Monkey<\/a>\u201d but unfortunately we never saw one.&nbsp; We did marvel at the 51 identified plants in the gully bottom that is basically a special planted rain forest.<\/p>\n<p>The numerous plants with flowers was amazing&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/box5128.temp.domains\/~ishmaels\/blog3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/IMG_2174.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"IMG_2174\" style=\"border-top: 0px; It was not too long and a bus came by, we got on and the trip down hill was a lot faster than the <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">one<\/strong> <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">going<\/strong> up.&nbsp; About the edge of town we stopped and picked up &#8220;standing room only&#8221; school kids all dressed in uniform \u2013 sorry I didn\u2019t get a picture as I didn\u2019t want to offend any of them.<\/p>\n<p>Back at the dock area we started walking back to the boat and saw some really neat souvenirs being made by a guy on the sidewalk.&nbsp; They weren&#8217;t too expensive and seeing that they were local, and he was making them right there we got a few.&nbsp; Pretty cool yarn on rope and wire men representing Barbados.&nbsp; The \u201cartist\u201d name is Michael and if your ever in <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">Barbados<\/strong> he will be set up on the shore line way outside the taxi area as your walking into town or to the bus <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">station<\/strong>.&nbsp; Good thing too as it cut loose and rained a downpour just after we got back.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">ship<\/strong> pulled out at a little after 5pm and it is great to be on the <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">ship<\/strong> and watching those get back on \u2013 late.&nbsp; We watched several that had sampled a bit too much of the rum and <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">one<\/strong> almost had to be \u201cpoured\u201d back on the <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">ship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">ship<\/strong> pulling out on time &#8211; Tonight was better than last night.&nbsp; It is a fact to us that you need to go early to get better food, as it gets cold and not as good the later in the evening it gets.<\/p>\n<p>You can also say that the staff on this cruise tries extremely hard to keep the people happy.&nbsp; They do way more than most service organizations, even if sometimes the <strong class=\"StrictlyAutoTagBold\">food<\/strong> it not great or they make mistakes they always apologize and go the extra mile to make up for it.<\/p>\n<p>Since this was Ryan and Brooke&#8217;s anniversary they had signed in for the Chefs table meal.&nbsp;
