Whether you have a motorhome, fifth wheel or travel trailer, it&#8217;s something that just can&#8217;t be ignored. Here are a few essential tips for maintaining a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>safe<\/strong> and trouble-free fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong> in your rig.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Use a separate fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> fill <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> that is designed specifically and only for drinking <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>. Use a different color of <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> for your utility <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> so you will never mix them up.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">When your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> is not in use, connect the ends of the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> together to keep the dirt, debris and insects out.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Know your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> source. Don&#8217;t assume it to be <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>safe<\/strong>. Run some <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> from the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> source faucet into a glass and check for clarity and odor before filling your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong>. Keep a supply of bottled <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> in your rig as a back up.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Connect a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> pressure regulator to the faucet end of your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hose<\/strong> to be sure of the pressure from your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> source.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Use a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> filter for your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> intake and change it at least once a year or sooner if you notice a change in the taste or flow of your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>. (Note: Filters will remove contaminates and improve taste, but will not purify your water.)<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Empty your potable <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> when not using your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>RV<\/strong> for more than 3-4 weeks at a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>time<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Sanitize your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> system&ndash;including your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> fill hose&ndash;before initial use, approximately every six months when in use, and after extended periods of non-<strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>use<\/strong>. If you live or camp in a warm climate and the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> is left in the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> for prolonged periods, you may want to sanitize the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong> more frequently.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #cc0000; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\"><strong>Sanitizing your fresh water tank<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12px;\">\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Drain your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Prepare a chlorine solution by mixing a quarter cup of liquid household bleach with a gallon of <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>. Use <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> gallon of solution for each 15 gallons of <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> capacity.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Turn off all the faucets and close all drain valves. Pour the solution into the fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Fill the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> the remainder of the way with fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Turn on the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> pump. Open all faucets <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> at a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>time<\/strong> to remove air from the lines. When <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> begins to flow steadily, turn faucet off.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Refill the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> with fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> and let stand 3-6 hours.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Drain the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong> by opening all faucets and the fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> drain valve while flushing the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong> with drinking quality <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Continue flushing the system, allowing the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> to flow for several minutes.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 15px;\">Close the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>tank<\/strong> drain valve and faucets. Refill the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong> with drinking quality <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;\">Following these simple tips can prevent problems and provide you with a <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>safe<\/strong> fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>system<\/strong>. But, in the event your fresh <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>water<\/strong> tank, other holding tanks (grey or black) or additional mechanical systems in your vehicle should fail, you can avoid the cost of expensive repairs with<a style=\"color: #c3390b;\" href=\"http:\/\/e.goodsamclub.com\/a\/hBM2Ew6B7uKdUB8VgS9Dj7nP4mE\/gsc4\" target=\"_blank\">Good Sam Extended Service Plan<\/a>.
