OK, I got the tower<\/strong> Friday morning from the welder. It will be planted in concrete next month when I get time to have someone come dig a big hole and pour concrete to hold it up…<\/p>\n

Here is the base section that will be “planted” –<\/p>\n

This is another view from the other direction<\/strong>. Close end will be up, far end will be setting in concrete (about 5 feet down). –

This piece is the tower<\/strong> itself and is about 46 ft. long… will pin about one foot<\/strong> above the ground<\/strong> and hinge from that point. This will allow the tower<\/strong> to be laid out on the ground<\/strong> so all work can be done from the ground<\/strong>. unless I get too big of an antenna on it that will require some kind folding device to lay it horizontal when it comes to ground<\/strong> as it will be horizontal when at full height? in any case it will require no more than a small step ladder?

I purchased a 3000# electric (12V) winch for this from Atwood’s (on sale last<\/strong> week for $89). It even came with a remote (full remote not wired remote). So I don’t even have to stand close to the pole<\/strong> when I pull up or lay down. I did not have caps<\/strong> put on so we can run<\/strong> the coax up the inside of the pole<\/strong> to protect it – maybe – as I have to find a method to put on the rotator and still allow the coax to come out around it? project<\/strong> for later.<\/p>\n

Will be glad to get it all up and antennas mounted on it. But that will be details for another post.
Just so you know the welded tower<\/strong> cost me $853.85 painted and delivered. I could have welded it up myself and saved some of that but I would have to get the pipe, and other supplies that the welder already had.
The plan and design is that it will not need any guy wires, although I may put some on up at the 40 ft. or so level, to protect the dipole wires from being pulled too much when it flexes.<\/p>\n
