{"id":248,"date":"2010-03-12T19:45:33","date_gmt":"2010-03-12T19:45:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/?p=248"},"modified":"2018-11-11T20:11:33","modified_gmt":"2018-11-11T20:11:33","slug":"oklahoma-road-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ishmaels.net\/blog\/2010\/03\/12\/oklahoma-road-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Oklahoma Road work?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I should not complain about the highway department fixing up the roads&#8230; it is obvious that they <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>need<\/strong> it but Geez there has to be a better way?  <\/p>\n<p>Today we left Stillwater at about 1pm.  things were ok through OKC a notorious gridlock at the interchange of I-35 and I-40 but not too bad&#8230; just backed up for a mile.  We  hit some slowing getting through Snoreman&#8230; and it looked like things would be great.  but about 6 miles north of <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>Pauls Valley<\/strong> the signs of repair were flashing again&#8230; &#8230; oh boy&#8230;<br \/>\nA rant &#8211; I hate those people that even with the warning &#8211; they go flashing down the &#8220;closed lane side&#8221; as fast as they can to get to the front of the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>line<\/strong> and force in ahead of the &#8220;polite&#8221; law-abiding drivers.  Some even race down the apron to get ahead&#8230;<br \/>\nanyway&#8230; the sign said construction 4 miles yet but we were dead stopped&#8230; enough so that I could pull up the phone and tweet that it was gridlock&#8230; it took about an <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hour<\/strong> to make that 4 miles&#8230; another problem is that at the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>Pauls Valley<\/strong> exit &#8211; many were jumping off, flashing down the ramp, crossing an getting back on &#8211; again ahead of those staying on I-35 along with anyone that had legitimate reason to get off&#8230; &#8220;pit stop&#8221;&#8230; but that caused even more delay as all the main <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>traffic<\/strong> had to <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>stop<\/strong> to either let them in or force a disagreement with them &#8211; do not disagree with a 18 wheeler&#8230;<br \/>\nAnyway we got through that <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> and it was now after 4pm and we were not yet to the Duncan\/.Sulphur exit&#8230; <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>guess<\/strong> what&#8230; another stretch of construction at Ardmore&#8230; but that <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> moved a bit faster and we made it to Texas&#8230; what normally takes 4 hours took 5+&#8230; but the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>hour<\/strong> was moving 3 miles?  I <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>guess<\/strong> I should have researched the route some and determined that  I should take the HWY 177 route south to the state line&#8230; ?   Oh well&#8230; at least the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>traffic<\/strong> going North was moving smoothly&#8230; never saw that <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>side<\/strong> stopped for anything &#8211; they slowed but not stop? <\/p>\n<p>So much fun I will <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>need<\/strong> a few days to get an attitude adjustment so I can driver back. <\/p>\n<p>Of note I had both the VX8R running APRS and the new phone using APRSdroid&#8230; the radio did a better job of tracking?  the droid must have been loosing cell towers or something s it had big holes in the track&#8230; look for your <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>self<\/strong> track wd0ajg-7 (VX8R) or wd0ajg-9  (the droid)&#8230; (note to self, slow down the updates from the VX8R&#8230; wish it was the VX8DR&#8230; <\/p>\n<p>One more observation &#8211; there were a lot of RV people out moving in both directions&#8230; wish I had been <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I should not complain about the highway department fixing up the roads&#8230; it is obvious that they need it but Geez there has to be a better way? <\/p>\n<p>Today we left Stillwater at about 1pm. things were ok through OKC a notorious gridlock at the interchange of I-35 and I-40 but not too bad&#8230; just backed up for a mile.
