I served in the Army to defend this country and our freedom.<\/p>\nSo, as much as I hate to, I guess I have to agree on an intellectual level that Muslims have the right<\/strong> to build a mosque near New<\/strong> York\u2019s Ground Zero, just as the Baptists or Catholics have the right<\/strong> to build a house of worship wherever they want to. As much as we may want to, we cannot deny to one group what we would allow another to do. That goes against the very tenets our nation was founded upon.<\/p>\nHowever, I think it\u2019s a despicable idea<\/strong>. I think it is a slap in the face to every American<\/strong>.<\/p>\nEver since the September 11th attacks, we have heard that the animals who did those terrible deeds are not representative of the millions<\/strong> of other Muslims in the world. And I believe that is true. Just as true as is the fact<\/strong> that religious zealots who kill doctors who perform abortions, or picket the funerals of American<\/strong> soldiers killed in action crying \u201cFags Must Die\u201d are not representative of the millions<\/strong> of Christians in the world. <\/p>\nHowever, just because somebody has a right<\/strong> does not mean that they have to exercise that right<\/strong>. I think the people who want to build this mosque, the \u201cgood\u201d Muslims who want the American<\/strong> public<\/strong> to be sensitive to the fact<\/strong> that they had no part in the terrorist attacks of September 11th, are showing a terrible amount of insensitivity to the rest of us.<\/p>\nIsn\u2019t religion, any religion, supposed to be based upon love and acceptance? The Muslims in New<\/strong> York want us to accept them as equals, but they are callously ignoring the feelings of millions<\/strong> of Americans who consider that hallowed ground. How religious and loving is that?<\/p>\nIt\u2019s not about their right<\/strong> to build a mosque where they want to. It\u2019s about decency and respect. Neither of which the Muslims who want to build this mosque are exhibiting. And yet, they want respect and acceptance from us.<\/p>\nNeo-Nazis have a right<\/strong> to march down public<\/strong> streets, even in front of Jewish synagogues, but that doesn\u2019t mean it shouldn\u2019t make the rest of us a little bit<\/strong> sick to our stomachs.
