Today was a work day\u2026 Since I had done the front<\/strong> porch<\/strong> power washing last week or before?\u2026 I needed to get the oil\/stain on to finish that side up\u2026 We had decided on using Mountain Cedar<\/strong> Woodland Oil stain\/sealer\u2026 <\/p>\n

I had purchased a gallon last week for the project and today I opened it up and did a good job of stirring it\u2026 although when I opened the can I thought it looked dark but it must dry down or something?  <\/p>\n

I put some on in a semi hidden area then stepped back\u2026 WOW\u2026 that stuff is really \u201cred\u201d?  As you can see above I was expecting just some light brown addition to the bare wood\u2026 but <\/p>\n

That is what I got?  probably put on a bit<\/strong> too much before I stopped to check it out\u2026 notice the siding on the house\u2026 that is Mahogany stain on Cement fiber board\u2026  it has a 25 years guarantee to stay that color<\/strong> and we really didn\u2019t want the porch<\/strong> wood<\/strong> to look the same\u2026 ?  actually more of a Honey Pine stain is all I wanted for it\u2026 so I took the can back and showed them the stir stick and the brochure with the color<\/strong> chips and said it must have been mis-labeled\u2026. They agreed and I got my refund then went to Paints and had the paint people open up another can of \u201cMountain Cedar\u201d and it was the same and they agree it was not the same as the samples they had of Mountain Cedar\u2026 which they had a treated board with all the colors done on it and labeled\u2026 \u2026 the color<\/strong> matched the Mahogany so I guess the whole lot<\/strong> or a bunch of the cans are either mis-labeled or something?  I then got the Natural tone and they opened it\u2026 matched the sample board fine?  I bought that and came home\u2026 and spent much of the rest of the day<\/strong> coating the porch\u2026 <\/p>\n

I just barely got the front<\/strong> rail and the steps done on one<\/strong> gallon and had to make a rush trip back to Lowes at about 2:30 to get some more\u2026 this time I got a 3 gallon bucket or the Natural and ended up using about half of that to finish up the decking\u2026 I know in that evening light it looks a bit<\/strong> red\u2026 but I think it has a lot<\/strong> to do with the background \u2026<\/p>\n

This takes the red Mahogany siding out, pretty much and the porch<\/strong> is substantially darker with the Natural oil on it anyway\u2026 will see if it lightens up once it dries out\u2026 Got that done about 4:30 and got most of my tools put up and cleaned up and then it was time to set down\u2026 it was hot with no wind out there?  \u2026 I should get started on the back deck doing the power wash sometime soon?  I don\u2019t move too fast these days..  I have plenty of other small projects to get done as well\u2026 one<\/strong> is to get the mesh top on the jeep\u2026 for that I have to take the hard top off \u2026 might do that this week if it stays cool and I can get into the shop to the winch to lift the top off\u2026 <\/p>\n
