OK, recap\u2026 day 8 was the trip home\u2026 I remember all those years of people saying it must be so much fun<\/strong> to travel to all those places\u2026 well I was travelling for work\u2026  not play\u2026 I seldom got to see the sites, unless you count work sites and industrial parks and such\u2026 I also had to put up with all the hassle<\/strong> of travel and those that were with me this time<\/strong> got their share of it\u2026 will it keep me or them from going again, no\u2026 but now they know it was not all fun<\/strong> and if you\u2019re not seeing the sites\u2026 it is down right bad\u2026 <\/p>\n

All that said, I saw a lot of things in 20 plus years of travel\u2026 been to a lot of places I would never go for touring\u2026 and made a few friends on the way\u2026 <\/p>\n

As I said, travel can be just one<\/strong> huge hassle\u2026 case in point, we were up early\u2026 remember we were 6 hours ahead of local time\u2026 so we were up at about midnight in Oklahoma and off to the airport after some goodbyes\u2026 Got there in plenty of time, no big hassle<\/strong> checking in but security there is always a bit<\/strong> different as you have to pull out everything electronic and put it in a try\u2026 well I got through, (practice) but both Sherrie and Elaine were gone over twice cause<\/strong> one<\/strong> forgot a phone in a pocket and the other forgot a watch or something\u2026 which entitles you to the magic wand search and several other things\u2026<\/p>\n

We got on our first plane with out delay and the 8+ hour flight<\/strong> went well\u2026 a bit<\/strong> rough in spots but ok\u2026 slipped into Chicago with only a few added circles\u2026 the new passport automated controls are nice, speeds up the transition, although I have Global Traveler status so I don\u2019t need to go through the same lines but for them I went anyway\u2026 <\/p>\n

Took a bit<\/strong> of time<\/strong> but got our bags and again, I didn\u2019t jump to the Global Traveler exit but went with them, although we got a line<\/strong> open as soon as we got there and out we went\u2026 to recheck\u2026 got rechecked and out the first doors and it was CHAOS\u2026 like normal\u2026 up to the train and it was packed\u2026 tighter than normal\u2026 to the connection terminal and got in line<\/strong> for recheck and \u2026 I got my Global pass push but they shifted Sherrie and Elaine to the other lines\u2026 not bad as I had seen lines out the doors but we hit it at the right time<\/strong> but again\u2026 phone on pocket, junk left out, and this time<\/strong> it caused a finger swab and the multiple questions\u2026 they grabbed things and moved in to put shoes back on\u2026 I didn\u2019t have to take mine off or even my belt this time\u2026 but I would see things were going downhill from there\u2026 our flight<\/strong> was still about 4 hours off but there were flashing \u201cCANCELLED\u201d and DELAYED on every board\u2026 the halls were packed about tight enough you could not stir the people\u2026the help desk had a line<\/strong> of maybe 200 or more having to reschedule or argue what do we do now\u2026 it looked like more weather was moving into Chicago and that would cause<\/strong> even more delays\u2026 so much fun\u2026 the seats are damn hard if you setting for more than 20 minutes\u2026 the toilets are packed the food vendors are making a killing on the elevated prices cause<\/strong> they have a captive audience\u2026 we found some seats and waited for out flight<\/strong> to show up on the board\u2026 I got board so I added the United App to my phone to get updates instead of fighting the crowd to find a board\u2026 then my phone started shaking\u2026 like very few minutes it would vibrate\u2026 the delays<\/strong> and changes and cancels were taking the effect\u2026 the line<\/strong> for service doubled\u2026 our flight<\/strong> was still scheduled but \/?? moved back 2 hours\u2026 then up then back then gate change and another and another\u2026 and back and up\u2026 every time<\/strong> lightening hit within 5 miles of the airport it shut down\u2026 so things were not moving well\u2026 <\/p>\n

For all those that think the travel is glamorous\u2026 think again\u2026 unless  your rich or have advanced status\u2026 it just sucks\u2026 the fun<\/strong> when you get there (if not working) is worth it but otherwise\u2026 it sucks\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
