Ok so how does that go together?  Well you have to be here to experience it but today was a volunteer day<\/strong> for me.  The local Amateur Radio club volunteers to run<\/strong> the gates<\/strong> for the Pawnee Steam show<\/strong> every year<\/strong> and this year, since I am retired, I had volunteered to help.  I did this same thing 2 years ago and had a great time , although it was a lot<\/strong> of work.  Today I had to get up way too damn early (about 5:30AM) to so I could be in Pawnee by 7AM\u2026 The gates<\/strong> open at 8AM and we have to have breakfast and a briefing before we get started.  As opposed to the previous year<\/strong> we had several extra people<\/strong> working the gates<\/strong> so it sure helped\u2026 My last time it was two of us on the north gate and the line was 300 yards long before we got a little help\u2026 Today is a normally slower day<\/strong> and tomorrow will be the big rush but if we have the same crews show<\/strong> up it will work out fine.<\/p>\n

First thing today I took a back road north, which takes me by the Tumbleweed\u2026 This is the big weekend for the Calf fry\u2026  This was Friday morning going<\/strong> by the parking\u2026 it is so big they park in all the free fields as far as 1\/2 mile away \u2026 not it is a big deal here\u2026 <\/p>\n

I guess there were a lot<\/strong> of folks that couldn\u2019t drive home or got rides\u2026 in the distant there is even a campout\u2026 <\/p>\n

I know it is blurred and I didn\u2019t see it till later\u2026 tents in next to those trees\u2026 and this evening there were people<\/strong> back there.<\/p>\n

It was also a bit cool this morning as you can see by the steam off the ponds.<\/p>\n

But my focus was to get to Pawnee and the<\/p>\n

Here is the crew and our banner as volunteers for the gate check in\u2026 it is early but we had people<\/strong> waiting to get in at 8AM\u2026 and the crowd was pretty steady most of the day<\/strong> coming and going<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

These were not part of the show<\/strong> but they did come by along with maybe 5 other classic cars on a run\u2026 <\/p>\n

The show<\/strong> had several antique cars, trucks along with more old tractors and stuff than you can imagine\u2026 <\/p>\n

One of my duties was to hold the gate open for the passing tractor on his way to a plowing demonstration\u2026 <\/p>\n

There was a group of Bike riders that came to the show<\/strong> and one guy had just gotten his finish\u2026 a bit out of my range as he said it had cost him $70,000?  sure hope I didn\u2019t mis-understand ??<\/p>\n

I left the show<\/strong> at about 2:30 as we had planned for another engagement this evening but when I got home Sherrie had not been feeling good all afternoon so I sat down and promptly took a nap\u2026 When I woke form that I asked if we were still going<\/strong> to the Foundation function and that seemed to be out but an alternative was the free music<\/strong> at the OSU Botanical Gardens<\/a>\u2026 they have started to run<\/strong> free music<\/strong> on 3 Fridays in September and now they have decided to try them in May\u2026 and it was pretty good \u2026They have a list of things<\/a> they are doing along with the music<\/strong> evenings\u2026<\/p>\n

The group tonight was Rhythm and Blues and a lot<\/strong> of stuff form the 70\u2019s\u2026 not bad\u2026 <\/p>\n

That pretty much ended the evening of another great day\u2026 which I finished off with a glass of wine after supper waiting on the grandkids to get here.<\/p>\n
