{"id":15519,"date":"2014-03-08T22:34:16","date_gmt":"2014-03-09T04:34:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/?p=15519"},"modified":"2014-03-08T22:34:16","modified_gmt":"2014-03-09T04:34:16","slug":"still-sooooooo-lucky","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ishmaels.net\/blog\/2014\/03\/08\/still-sooooooo-lucky\/","title":{"rendered":"Still sooooooo lucky&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today I got up early made the long drive to Claremore <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>OK<\/strong> for the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greencountryhamfest.org\/\"> Green Country Hamfest<\/a>. \u00a0I saw a bumpersticker I should have gotten, &#8220;a Hamfest is like a SuperGeeks spring break&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Anyway it was a decently attended hamfest, with a few forums that I wanted to attend. \u00a0I needed an update to my stormspotter training, just in case&#8230; I wanted to attend the <a href=\"http:\/\/arrlwgd.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">ARRL West Gulf Section<\/a>, we are in the Oklahoma section of that Division,\u00a0meeting and see what is <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>going<\/strong> on there. \u00a0The meetings were informative and the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>ARRL<\/strong> several representatives there. \u00a0The part about luck&#8230;. There were maybe 30 or so attendees in that forum and they had maybe 15 items to give out by drawing. \u00a0We each got <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> ticket. \u00a0With a 1 in 2 chance you would think that I could win something? \u00a0<strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>NOOOOOOOOO<\/strong> they called the ticket number before mine and the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>one<\/strong> behind mine and a bunch of others and I got zilch&#8230; My <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>luck<\/strong> is holding out as usual&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>So I left the forums about 11:30 and headed in to see what was being bargained off in the swap area&#8230; Mostly it was old junk&#8230; I have better old junk that some of the stuff there&#8230; but about 12:15 or so&#8230; poof, <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>people<\/strong> started packing it up and leaving? \u00a0I don&#8217;t understand that. \u00a0It is a Saturday, we made the effort to get there and the schedule is for all day but some of the stuff I thought I might want to get back and look at again was gone by the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>time<\/strong> I got <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>half<\/strong> way around&#8230; I mean you go to these things to see the goodies, talk to <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>people<\/strong> you know or would like to meet in person and don&#8217;t have <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>time<\/strong> to do much of either? \u00a0 Maybe I am old but I remember the old hamfests that were at least 1.5 days long and we all had plenty of <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>time<\/strong> to visit? \u00a0no wonder the vendors are not showing up for most of them anymore as well as there is just not much money in it anymore?<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I picked up a few parts, did get to talk with a few <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>people<\/strong> and that was it. \u00a0Still some fun involved to associate with all those super geeks&#8230; \u00a0and extraordinary rednecks&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>WD0AJG<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today I got up early made the long drive to Claremore OK for the Green Country Hamfest.
