We had to get up before most people went to bed\u2026 actually I tried but never got more than a short 1 hour<\/strong> nap\u2026 but Tuesday\u00a0 night<\/strong> at 11pm I got up and packed and we left at 12:00AM.\u00a0 It was a 3 plus hour<\/strong> drive to the dock we were to \u201cship out\u201d from and had to be there at 4AM to load and boat leaves at 5AM\u2026 Geez any wonder why I don\u2019t want to keep doing this job?\u00a0 It was dark and I didn\u2019t get any really good pictures going out.\u00a0 They said it was a 3 hour<\/strong> (plus) boat ride out to the location\u2026 Damn slow boat and you will maybe see why\u2026<\/p>\n

I know it is a bad picture but at the time I was on the move and the boat we came in on was leaving\u2026<\/p>\n

The view from the boat when we got to the location\u2026 look close in the middle left\u2026 that is a \u201cman-basket\u201d being winched up with 3 guys on it\u2026 my trip was next\u2026<\/p>\n

guessing that the boat on the right<\/strong> is jacked up about 100 feet<\/strong> off the water\u2026 the legs were supposed to be 180 feet<\/strong> long and maybe in 35 to 55 feet<\/strong> of water? and yes it is a boat (work boat)\u2026<\/p>\n

When we got there I got this shot of the \u201cproduction<\/strong> platform on the left\u2026 the flat thing on the top\u2026 is the Heliport we left from today\u2026<\/p>\n

We got to the rig at about 8am\u2026 worked all day<\/strong> after being up most of the night<\/strong> and working all the day<\/strong> before\u2026 and this was sunset\u2026<\/p>\n

A little after sunset you could see the other rigs in the distance and one<\/strong> flaring off\u00a0 some gas\u2026<\/p>\n

This afternoon we left by Helicopter\u2026. arrived by boat and leave by helicopter what an adventure\u2026<\/p>\n

now the helicopter port as I showed before was on top of the production<\/strong> platform on the far side\u2026<\/p>\n

Yes, way up there on the right\u2026with row after row of ladders to that level\u2026<\/p>\n

The wells are on the platform in the middle where the boat backed up to, sort of but didn\u2019t tie up\u2026 we stayed on the jackup boat in a very small room for 4 (bunk beds)\u2026 it is pretty cramped for 30 people on that boat to live and work extended periods\u2026 the crews work 2 weeks out there and get one<\/strong> week off\u2026<\/p>\n

back to the heliport\u2026 the boat we were on was about 100 feet<\/strong> off the water\u2026 the heliport was maybe 120 feet<\/strong> above that boat and the \u201cgangways were long and the stairs steep and carrying two bags up there\u2026 whew, that is a bit much for an old guy\u2026<\/p>\n

At this point I am about half way up to the heliport\u2026<\/p>\n

Here it comes\u2026 we are just one<\/strong> level below the top waiting\u2026<\/p>\n

Coming in to land and the waves hitting a beach\u2026 not one<\/strong> that is used much\u2026 in the distant to the left is Fourchon, LA\u2026<\/p>\n

nearing the point of return\u2026 on the right<\/strong> (far right) is the dock we left from and on the left is the heliport we will land at\u2026 lot<\/strong> of helicopters fly from here\u2026 spots for 10 counted\u2026<\/p>\n

The one<\/strong> that brought me back from the rocking and swaying boat in the air\u2026 just glad it was calm out there\u2026 they say that it can sway enough that some get sea sick and it is not really moving\u2026 just swaying in the air on those legs\u2026<\/p>\n

now one<\/strong> thing I can say about the food\u2026 I would be enjoying that a lot\u2026 lunch today\u2026 two of my Louisiana favorites\u2026 they say they had \u201crun-off\u201d 3 cooks in the past 3 weeks but I think this guy will stick around a while\u2026 during daylights we had some really great meals\u2026 always too much available and you have to pace yourself\u2026 ha!\u2026 I didn\u2019t even get to the pork chops or the jambalaya that was there\u2026<\/p>\n

On the other hand, I couldn\u2019t work as hard as the crews were working and it was damn hot out there on that boat\u2026 temps hitting mid 90\u2019s but with the humidity and sun on the water<\/strong> it was in the 110 to 115 heat<\/strong> index and the days before with no wind\u2026 130 heat<\/strong> index\u2026 like being back in the desert although it was humid to the max\u2026 oh well as I said the adventures just keep coming\u2026 I can now say I have been out on the \u201cwork boat\u201d , lived on a \u201cjackup\u201d, and road the helicoprt home\u2026 (actually had a helicopter ride back in the 90\u2019s at Malongo base in Africa)\u2026 but that was to get from the airport to the base as the roads were not safe????<\/p>\n

need to get a shower and some sleep as I was not able to sleep much in the hard bunk with the gentle sway\u2026 just not used to my bed moving all the time\u2026<\/p>\n
