Started early from Midland\u2026 passing to the west and on our way we passed through places like \u201cnotrees, TX\u201d and Kermit and Mentone\u2026 <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>look<\/strong> that up for amazement.&#160;&#160; We ended up about 20 miles south of Carlsbad NM\u2026 on our first location\u2026 <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/roadtrip.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"roadtrip\" border=\"0\" alt=\"roadtrip\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/roadtrip_thumb.jpg?resize=640%2C290\" width=\"640\" height=\"290\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wonderful scenery\u2026. if you like sand, sage, and nothing\u2026 I don\u2019t mind it as there really is a lot to <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>look<\/strong> at if you <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>look<\/strong> close\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>We even crossed the real Pecos River\u2026 don\u2019t <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>look<\/strong> like much here but is the Pecos river.&#160; Just above Red Bluff reservoir it looks like this.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7242.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"IMG_7242\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_7242\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7242_thumb.jpg?resize=568%2C427\" width=\"568\" height=\"427\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Below that reservoir it is dry\u2026 <\/p>\n<p>During our <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>visit<\/strong> in this area I spotted these two strange birds\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7245.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"IMG_7245\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_7245\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7245_thumb.jpg?resize=566%2C407\" width=\"566\" height=\"407\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I could also see the Guadalupe Mountains and somewhere in that direction is the Carlsbad caverns?&#160; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7248.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"IMG_7248\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_7248\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7248_thumb.jpg?resize=564%2C424\" width=\"564\" height=\"424\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Like I said we passed through Mentone\u2026 don\u2019t blink as it will be missed <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7260.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"IMG_7260\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_7260\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7260_thumb.jpg?resize=566%2C388\" width=\"566\" height=\"388\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>On the way back we spotted some of the \u201cCentury\u201d plants in front of an old place\u2026 <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7265.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px\" title=\"IMG_7265\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IMG_7265\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7265_thumb.jpg?resize=566%2C426\" width=\"566\" height=\"426\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was in <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>bloom<\/strong> too\u2026 the false story is that it only blooms once every 100 years\u2026 but actually it blooms at the end of it\u2019s life\u2026 about 20 to 30 years and then other shoots come up from the base to replace it\u2026 read the story here: <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Agave_americana\" target=\"_blank\">Agave Americana<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The blooms are pretty cool\u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/IMG_7266.jpg\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none;
