{"id":12934,"date":"2012-11-14T23:48:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-15T05:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ishmaels.net\/blog\/?p=12934"},"modified":"2012-11-14T23:48:00","modified_gmt":"2012-11-15T05:48:00","slug":"politics-and-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ishmaels.net\/blog\/2012\/11\/14\/politics-and-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Politics and elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have held my tongue for awhile but since I am back on the blog\u2026 so much for that control\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The election went as we feared.&#160; We all voted just enough to maintain the gridlock and give those same idiots hold on our lives for another 4 years.&#160; We have all been covered over by the \u201cfiscal cliff\u201d.&#160; One piece I read said it will be more a slippery slope not a cliff but in any case I am and all of you will have to adjust to the increase in taxes we will all <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>pay<\/strong> and for what?&#160; I am betting nothing new will come of it\u2026 Anyway, I wanted to put in what the fiscal cliff is so we can tick off any of these things that they might compromise on and then figure out how we will <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>pay<\/strong> for the others\u2026<\/p>\n<p>The following provisions of current <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>law<\/strong> are most involved in the fiscal cliff:<sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_fiscal_cliff#cite_note-CBOOutlook1208-11\">[10]<\/a><\/sup><sup><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_fiscal_cliff#cite_note-nytrecession-12\">[11]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Expiration of the <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>Obama<\/strong> tax cuts provided for in the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tax_Relief,_Unemployment_Insurance_Reauthorization,_and_Job_Creation_Act_of_2010\">Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010<\/a>; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Across-the-board spending cuts (&quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sequestration\">sequestration<\/a>&quot;) to most discretionary programs as directed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Budget_Control_Act_of_2011\">Budget Control Act of 2011<\/a>; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Reversion of the Alternative Minimum Tax thresholds to their 2000 tax <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>year<\/strong> levels; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Expiration of measures delaying the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Medicare_Sustainable_Growth_Rate\">Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate<\/a> from <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>going<\/strong> into effect (the &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Doc_fix\">doc fix<\/a>&quot;), most recently extended by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Middle_Class_Tax_Relief_and_Job_Creation_Act_of_2012\">Middle Class Tax Relief and Job Creation Act of 2012<\/a> (MCTRJCA); <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Expiration of the 2% Social Security payroll tax cut, most recently extended by MCTRJCA; <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Expiration of federal unemployment benefits, most recently extended by <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>MCTRJCA<\/strong> and <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>New taxes imposed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Patient_Protection_and_Affordable_Care_Act\">Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Health_Care_and_Education_Reconciliation_Act_of_2010\">Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010<\/a>. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>With that from the WIKI world I have this \u201ccut and paste\u201d from someone more adept at capturing things than I ..&#160; Looks like we are all <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>going<\/strong> to <strong class='StrictlyAutoTagBold'>pay<\/strong> up at least 5% more in tax??? and you all voted for this?<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thereformedbroker.com\/2012\/11\/12\/how-would-the-fiscal-cliff-affect-typical-families-in-each-state\/\">How the Fiscal Cliff Could Effect Families, By State         <\/a><\/h4>\n<p>from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/reader\/view\/feed\/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thereformedbroker.com%2Ffeed%2F\">The Reformed Broker<\/a> by Michael<\/p>\n<p>From the Tax Foundation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>To illustrate the potential impact on typical families, we have used Census and IRS data to estimate income and deductions for the median two-child family in each of the fifty states.
