Going paperless– fact or fiction? The paperless office concept is not new; it has existed since the 1960s and \u201970s with the introduction of personal computers. The idea was that automation would make paper redundant. But contrary to predictions of paperless offices, with inexpensive personal computers, printers, copiers, and the Internet, paper<\/strong> use increased. In fact<\/strong>, worldwide office<\/strong> paper<\/strong> use<\/strong> more than doubled from 1980 to 2000. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n

Going paperless is not about completely eliminating paper<\/strong> use<\/strong>. Realistically, that is not going<\/strong> to happen.<\/p>\n

"Paperless" today<\/strong> really means using less paper<\/strong>, not completely eliminating it. The totally paperless office<\/strong> is not realistic, but the office<\/strong> that uses less paper<\/strong> is within reach.<\/p>\n

I think that may fall under the \u201coxymoron\u201d category\u2026 if they really mean \u201cLess-paper<\/strong>\u201d than that is what we should say\u2026 not \u201cpaperless\u201d <\/p>\n
