The paperless office concept is not new; it has existed since the 1960s and \u201970s with the introduction of personal computers. The idea was that automation would make paper redundant. But contrary to predictions of paperless offices, with inexpensive personal computers, printers, copiers, and the Internet, <strong>paper<\/strong> use increased. In <strong>fact<\/strong>, worldwide <strong>office<\/strong> <strong>paper<\/strong> <strong>use<\/strong> more than doubled from 1980 to 2000. <\/b><\/p>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>Then they follow with this tidbit\u2026<\/p>\n<h5><strong>The &#8216;Paperless Myth&#8217;<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>Going paperless is not about completely eliminating <strong>paper<\/strong> <strong>use<\/strong>. Realistically, that is not <strong>going<\/strong> to happen.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Paperless&quot; <strong>today<\/strong> really means using less <strong>paper<\/strong>, not completely eliminating it. The totally paperless <strong>office<\/strong> is not realistic, but the <strong>office<\/strong> that uses less <strong>paper<\/strong> is within reach.<\/p>\n<p>&#160;<\/p>\n<p>I think that may fall under the \u201coxymoron\u201d category\u2026 if they really mean \u201cLess-<strong>paper<\/strong>\u201d than that is what we should say\u2026 not \u201cpaperless\u201d <\/p>\n<p>even wikipedia is hedging the bets:<\/p>\n<h3>Paperless office<\/h3>\n<p>From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia<\/p>\n<p>A <b>paperless office<\/b> is a work environment in which the <strong>use<\/strong> of <strong>paper<\/strong> is eliminated or greatly reduced. This is done by converting documents and other papers into digital form. Proponents claim that &quot;<strong>going<\/strong> paperless&quot; can save money, boost productivity, save space, <strong>make<\/strong> documentation and <strong>information<\/strong> sharing easier, keep personal <strong>information<\/strong> more secure, and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Environmental_impact_of_paper\">help the environment<\/a>.
