Last night I posted about the mill<\/strong> at Jefferson, OK<\/strong>\u2026 There was a lot<\/strong> more that we saw on that trip\u2026 some a bit<\/strong> unusual and a lot<\/strong> of it history\u2026 on the way north of Pond Creek I was reminded by my wife<\/strong>, that she had read in some Facebook post<\/strong> that the kids from out by Jet had rented this round barn<\/strong> for the prom\u2026 didn\u2019t know there was another \u201cRound Barn\u201d  but it is there just off highway 81<\/strong>..<\/p>\n

Just up from the \u201cRound Barn\u201d we came across this \u201chistorical marker\u201d or after a little false start we thought maybe a Hysterical Marker?<\/p>\n

Good prank\u2026 we thought about it and of course<\/strong> went the wrong way \u2013 followed the arrow because there were two bolts in the bottom sign\u2026 but turns out it was up-side<\/strong>-down\u2026 <\/p>\n

We did go back to the right<\/strong> and found this marker\u2026<\/p>\n

If you can\u2019t read it it says \u201con this spot are buried two cowboys who gave their lives in winning the frontier to civilization.  Tom Best rode south from Kansas in 1872 to join the Texas cattle<\/strong> drives, but was killed by hostile Indians a short distance north of this point.  Ed Chambers , in 1873, rode north with a herd from Texas and he too was killed by Indians about a mile south east of here\u201d\u2026 the monument was erected in 1937 as a WPA<\/strong> historical marker\u2026 This marker was on the south side<\/strong> of the rode just before the railroad tracks\u2026 It was a shame we didn\u2019t go on over or know of the park on the other side<\/strong> of the tracks to the north\u2026 maybe next time<\/p>\n

Note the Rock Island Park<\/strong> in lower right<\/strong>\u2026 the monument was just to the left of the track crossing road<\/strong> E0210Rd,<\/p>\n

Later after leaving Jefferson I got this spotting of the old thrashing machine\u2026 no longer used while combines were cutting wheat just in the field<\/strong> ahead\u2026<\/p>\n

Then it became evident that in the past someone<\/strong> had sold the farmers in this area real well on putting in \u201cSilos\u201d  we saw numerous of these in nearly every old field<\/strong>..<\/p>\n

I got several pictures in Garber but these were the most interesting for today\u2026<\/p>\n

A small town of many old churches<\/strong> but the others all were taken into the sun<\/strong> and this is the best of the ones I got\u2026 I really need<\/strong> to do a better job of taking pictures..<\/p>\n

So that was the afternoon<\/strong> diversion off the main highway to visit \u201cout of the way\u201d places\u2026 you should really try it sometime\u2026 you never know what you might see..<\/p>\n
