I belong to the local Amateur Radio Club and the one<\/strong> paying function<\/strong> they do every year<\/strong> is to help out at the Pawnee Steam Engine show<\/a>\u2026 We are asked every year<\/strong> to man the gates<\/strong> as volunteers and sell tickets so the other volunteers can focus on the critical items of the show<\/strong>.  Now, I had never been to the show<\/strong>.  I had been In Pawnee and had driven by the park<\/a> which is adjacent to the county fair grounds and school<\/strong> football field, etc.\u2026 but it seems the larger portion of the site<\/strong> is owned by the Steam Engine group.  They do have a large collection and people<\/strong> come from all over to attend this, basically the first of the season<\/strong> for the touring Steam Engine followers.   You can check out the OST&GEA site here<\/a>. <\/p>\n

We are a small group and generally are probably under manned to take care of three access gates<\/strong> to this show<\/strong> but we do our best to keep the public moving and happy.  I was told that last<\/strong> year<\/strong> they passed about 1000 people<\/strong> on the first day<\/strong>, and that does not include the exhibitors which probably by number just as many\u2026 A lot of them come and camp<\/strong> on the grounds as they are selling, showing or just need to be around the people<\/strong> of like interest.  <\/p>\n

Sure would have been easier than the hand<\/strong> crank\u2026 steam engine<\/strong> ice cream maker\u2026 There was a group making and selling ice cream from steam engines\u2026<\/p>\n

And there was an abundance of smoke and popping going on\u2026 <\/p>\n
