By now I should have gotten back from Saudi<\/strong>.  When you think of this part of the world, most people<\/strong> think it is all sand.  That is not true.  In fact<\/strong> right<\/strong> here it is a lot<\/strong> of rock and damn hard rock at that.  We had to make<\/strong> a field<\/strong> visit or two and one<\/strong> location<\/strong> was about 70km off any paved road<\/strong>\u2026 about 50 miles.  Our average speed on that road<\/strong> was about 20 km per hour<\/strong>\u2026 figure<\/strong> that out and it took us 2.5 hours to make<\/strong> that portion of the trip<\/strong>.  The most bone jarring, rough road<\/strong> I have been on.  The driver (we are not allowed to drive here) said it was real easy to ruin tires on that road<\/strong> and we usually have at least one<\/strong> per group of trucks that is blown out due to the \u201csharp rocks\u201d in the road<\/strong>.  To show<\/strong> what it was like I have a few pictures .  <\/p>\n

A little closer you can see the fine rocks<\/strong> but remove the top layer of that, like for a road<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n

Then you find a lot<\/strong> of these and they have been \u201cwind<\/strong> eroded\u201d so they are not smooth and rounded but smooth and sharp edged\u2026<\/p>\n
