Home agn…

Ok, so I got home to late to tackle the daily post (well sometimes post).  Picked this up at the Diner stop I cover later but want it up front

SAM_3930

Damn first time I have been a day early… Mom always said I could be a day late and a dollar short for most things?

We got up late in Lakewood but figured we better get it home as I didn’t want to get up early on Monday and face the traffic jams in Denver (Sunday mid-morning had to be better) even if I got home late.  We grabbed and packed and hit the road about 9:30 AM?  Again, I missed a big sign?  and got off on I-76 rather than stay on I-70 east but a few miles down was the Federal BLVD off and I knew it went over I-70 somewhere south of us… good thing we got off as we found that “cheap” gas station at about 10 cents under most of the other Denver stations so if your looking, keep in mind that Bradley’s on Federal might be cheaper than the others… we also noticed a couple of the Green Chili places but it was too late for breakfast and too early for lunch so we went on to I-70 (it is only about a mile or two between the two on Federal BLVD… not a big loss and I actually gained by my mistake as I got a tank full of cheap gas.  So then it was East and no more mistakes.  We stopped in Limon for some big Iced Teas at the McDonalds as I needed a bladder break as well.  Back on the road we didn’t get far and saw the sign for Flagler and remembered the story we had read last fall about how the I-70 diner in Flagler was rated one of the top 10 for green chili.  I can’t vouch for top 10 but they do have home made Green and we pulled off for an early lunch.  I know we hadn’t been on the road more than 2 or 3 hours and stopping twice was going to really put a kink in getting home but who cares we are retired!

So this is where we stopped…
SAM_3923

It really is one of those shiny type diners… and it has been decorated as a 50,60’s 70’s type diner too… but the reason for the stop…

SAM_3926

Sherrie got the breakfast burrito with sausage in it and pork green chili on it… and we took home a big box of that…

SAM_3927

I got the open face burger with fries… the fries… oh well you don’t stop her for those… I did eat all my burger and was sweating and nose running pretty good when done… so what did I do?

I ordered big bowl of green to take home and we had some regular bean and cheese burritos tonight with that green on them… I almost thought that my trip to Colorado was going to be a loss and not get my green chili this trip due to the big snows and most of my family does not like Green like I do so they opt for various other meals and the day I could have gotten to Canon City it came a blizzard… But this stop on the way home made up for my miss.

Oh, and before I forget this is what happens in a big wind/blizzard when you not quit ready..

Either they had it aimed wrong or they found a weak blade?

SAM_3920

I think those blades may be about 80 ft. long and now they have to get a really big crane back out to replace that

top one…

One more strange thing that happens out there and has for years… the octane of the gas is 2 points less than the gas here at home (85 vs. 87) but we get better mileage in both the jeep and car from that gas and my daughter is experience the same thing. Oh and what on the subject of my daughter.  Late Saturday she wanted to go to Costco to pick up some things I rode along.  We got the gas station other and she needed to fill the jeep so pulled in, filled up and the damn auto shut off didn’t work so run some gas out on the drive.  with that small disaster the attendant want to push us off rather than let her start it up but hey… it wouldn’t start.  Appeared that it had battery power and I worked on the terminal connections but still, just clicking so the battery seemed to be very low.  She called Triple A and they said it might be 3 hours before they got there, so she called Jeep as she has an extended warranty and they just worked on the battery and leads.  They sent a guy out with a jump and he and the AAA tow truck got there at the same time so he put the jump on the battery and poof it started so it was a low battery.  The Triple A guy said that he could call in for a battery tech to come to her house and run diagnostics on the battery for the same service call so OK!… she left it running with me in it and got what she needed and home we went… an hour later the diagnostic guy shows and runs the test… battery appears fine but shows some leakage at the positive post? so why was it dead when we had driven 6 or 8 miles and it started at the house?  Mystery jeep I guess.  Later I heard that SIL pulled a good one along with driving the wrong way.  He was helping some friends to move up from Dallas.  They opted for the scenic route through NM and got stopped at Raton as the pass was closed… and to top that off he locked the keys in the running moving truck?  they had to call AAA as well. whew! just glad we had less excitement on our way home than they did.

We whistled on to Hays KS and filled up at the Dillions there and got even cheaper gas as I have a Dillon’s/Loaf and Jug/??? frequent users card and it saved me 10 cents per gallon this time.  With that fill we made it all the way to the south visitor center on I-35 before I had to have another bladder break… quick stop and on down the road to Grandma’s house… Sherrie had a little business with family to take care of and then we flashed on home.  Got in before 10:30pm… but barely.

Today I didn’t do much important… I got up a bit late but went to give blood anyway.  They need it for my physical test later this week. with that I was  plenty hungry as I had not really eaten since the noon meal yesterday (see above).  So when I got home we loaded back up and went to Firehouse Subs and I found I hade enough points for two free subs… how cool is that? So lunch was $5.24 (drinks and tax). On the way back I came on this tag that I had posted on before about out of date purchase tags and how they get by with out paying for real tags and the tax?

SAM_3932

I spent much of the rest of the day going over the mail we had stopped for the past two weeks… some more tax stuff and little else.   Damn 11/25/15 that is like 4+ months out and maybe 3 months into the penalty?  How can people like that get by with out getting tickets too? oh well.  So the end of the week looks busy so I need to rest up…
