Yesterday was another non-event in the greater scheme of being retired. I had stayed up late Saturday night working some 160 meter contacts out… no gains on my need for 160 meter AK or HI… but was enjoying the contacts on 160 anyway… So Sunday morning was slow to get around… I put together the stuff for Potatoe soup… the Weight Watchers recipe with a little addition… and put it all in the crockpot before noon, figuring that the soup would be good for supper… During the afternoon I did a little radio… made some 15 meter contacts and even made a pretty nice Olivia contact with Canadian Station VA3CQC on 40 meters… I had been attempting to make others but didn’t have things set right and was messing up for some reason. Might have been that 40 had a lot of QSB as we the signals were strong then nothing… so when that Olivia contact was finished up I moved on down to 80 and kept checking 160 for activity but most of the activity was on 80…
I got a couple of close (TX and NM) contacts in but kept seeing a Russian call? so I moved up from JT9( I have been concentrating on JT9 contacts recently) and called on JT65 and poof, he came back to my CQ? I never figured that I would be getting into Russia on 80 meters… it just does not happen that much for me with simple antennas and 30 watts… but sure enough I made that contact and then made one more with R6YY and RK6C… got a nice email from the R6YY asking that I for sure put it up on LOTW as it was rare to work central US on 80 meters and I was one of his remaining states needed for 5BWAS… I can sure understand the frustration for me it is 9BWAS but for him getting 5BWAS would be a real accomplishment , being as he is on the other side of the world… Silly me, I didn’t think a lot about it at the time. I have worked that area a lot but it has always been on 40 or 20 or higher… not down on 80 meters… and I was focused on the 160 need and other things but sure enough I should have hung around and caught a few more of the Europe stations as well on 80 as the greyline moved across them… I had a good night for hitting the greyline on the low bands and missed it…maybe? “I just didn’t realize how special it was at the time”. Sure hoping there is another good one in the future that I recognize and add up some more of those…
Anyway the potatoe soup was good… the activity was good and I didn’t watch the superbowl… I have little interest in the overhyped and overpaid sports. I can get all that I need by checking the headlines in the paper or actually set down and listen to the news… Which is not a pleasant thought either…
Oh and today was another one of those days, but damn it was bitter cold… When I quit last night (way too early) it was spitting just a few flakes of snow… no accumulation expected and none had but geeze it got cold…my weather station said it got down to 11 deg F… fortunately it won’t stay down for long or at leas the predictions are to hit 70 by Saturday… that will be a day to enjoy as longa s the wind is not horrible…
On today, I was expecting a delivery and went checking online and they said it was delivered on Sunday… well not while I was here (granted I nodded up in the middle of the afternoon for a short nap)… but no one knocked on the door or anything so I made further checks online and it said, “put in mailbox” … ok, so I made a trip to the box and that is when I figured out just how cold it was out… ooooh needed more clothes … but got my package and back to the house… then fixed my shopping list, headed to town dropped in and picked up some meds I needed and picked up Sherrie and off to lunch… it was warming up by then a bit… I sure do love the seat heater in the new jeep… and the remote start… anyway after lunch I stopped to pick up the few groceries we needed at the store… and it occurred to me I had taken some pictures of cars at that same store the other day…
something bit? and the mirror on this side is gone too? but nothing scratched the hood?
I have seen these in Louisiana but not in OK as a dash ornament?
