What is a marginal day? A day when you had plans and they all went POOF before you got good and started.
My plans were that the insulation crew would show up to start on the additions to the attic insulation I had been pricing out. I had it down they would start today and finish tomorrow, although I had disagreed on what they planned to put in over the weekend so not sure if that pushed them back or me? As it comes out they want to start on Thursday and finish on Friday. I wanted to be done so I could do something else on Friday but … Oh well. The project is to add another 6 inches of ground up STYRO foam insulation over the entire attic, fix the vertical portions of the “vaulted and open living room ceiling” and put some more fiberglass on the slopes… they were afraid to put the STYRO on the slope as it might slide off… I am using this “new” insulation because the company is here in Stillwater and the idea appealed to me. The R factor for the STYRO is about 5 units pre inch where fiberglass is usually about 3 to 3.5 per inch. The cost is about the same as blown in fiberglass, I am doing some good in using recycled material, it is less dusty than cellulose and I think it will get a little better coverage and fill as opposed to the fiberglass because it will fill in the holes. It also is not supposed to “compress” or “shrink” as much as the fiberglass does so that will be a benefit and you know as well as I do that when you hold a Styrofoam cup with either hot or cold liquid in it you have a pretty good insulation there… It may be a costly experiment but one that , if it works, will be a cheap investment in total improvement of my attic buffer zone and with another summer coming that looks like last year… I need all that buffer I can get from the heat… anyway the link to the Styro stuff is here.
With that change in plans I jumped in on some stuff for WORK – that four letter word that is needed to pay the bills… I have a half dozen online courses for certification that I have to have done by next week so I got one this morning and another this afternoon and am down to 4 that must be finished up. I will get those knocked out by Friday somehow as I need to also do some research for out coming trip/audit.
I left for lunch at about the right time and picked up the wife and we had the same old tired argument, where to go for lunch? The answer is the same old place we go, nearly every Monday – Taco Bueno… but today I changed up my order and went with the Tortilla soup so I could get the Senior drink discount… not bad as we ended up with a charge of $8.50 for the both of us to have lunch that way and the Soup was pretty good… although a big spicier than normal? Still not too bad. Strange how Chicken Tortilla Soup is made about a hundred different ways? I have had the creamy style at Macalister’s to the very liquid stuff at Taco Bueno and everything in-between… I still like all the different kinds anyway.
Once lunch was over and Sherrie was safe back at work I headed off to the barber shop… since I had planned to do that Friday because the insulation guys would have be busy Tues and Wed and I would go see Dad on Thursday… but now I guess I will try to go see Dad tomorrow and do the insulation Thursday and Friday so , get the haircut today or wait till next week and my morning DOO was getting a little out of control, even for me…
This evening we met with a Tile guy to figure up the cost of the bathroom –redo I think I have put it in that we want to get some HEAT under that flooring, we have never really been happy with the way the tile went in and had several little things we need to get fixed. Once he left I hustled off to the local Ham Club meeting.
At the meeting we covered such world news items as who will help with the Steam tractor thing in Pawnee the first of May, When the next meeting will be, when they will get the APRS stuff back so it can be put on the tower (has been in the works now for 3 years)… and when they will get access to the web page to fix it up (again has been in need of update for 3 years)… and a presentation by the local Red Cross Disaster Services and Operations Specialist, asking if we (as a group or individually) would be interested in communication assistance for the Red Cross locally. That ran into all sorts of directions and needs and at present there were more questions than answers but everyone seemed to be willing to help.
That was the total sum of my daily accomplishments as I left that meeting later than usual and got home, filled in this write-up and wobbled off to bed… Tomorrow will be another day and more exciting things will happen… just hope most of them are to someone else…
