Conserve Energy With Energy Saving Exteriors

A change of pace and back to some Environmental topics. When we built we wanted the “Energy Saving Exteriors” for everything. I was not able to afford the Metal Roof at the time as it was about 3 times the composition roof we opted for but we at least chose a light color to reflect more heat than absorb. I did however go with an energy-saving siding (not mentioned in this article) that also had a very long “maintenance free” warranty. We wanted a portion of the house to look like it had “wood” siding. However, I didn’t want to be out painting or staining it every few years. To accomplish this we opted for a cement fiber lap siding that came pre-stained to look like redwood siding. The warranty on this material says 25 years and no need to stain or seal. I think it may last much longer. It is a bit heavier than regular siding and I would guess that it would be as good an insulator as regular concrete is. Beyond that, unless I bang into it with something really big, it will not rot, peel, chip, or change color. It also does not draw those pesky termites either but I made sure it and all wood was well over a few inches way from any ground level. Just another option to look into. One such board is called “Hardie-board”. Check it out when you need to put on siding. – WD0AJG

It is obvious as self explanatory when they talk about energy saving exteriors; it is located outside the house. One example of these is reflective roofing materials. The benefits of having this kind of roofing materials, it helps reduce the sunlight from penetrating inside the house that’s why it can help reduce the energy consumption.
