Ok, today was my full second day home from a long journey but I got the bug to get some of the long-awaited “maintenance” things done. And yes it was damn hot out so I worked in the morning and tried to stay inside during the afternoon.
1. Got back on my schedule and made a short walk this morning. About 40 minutes is all as I was sweating like a “big dog”. Several pretty good hills out here to walk and that takes it out pretty quick. I am sure that my pace is not anywhere as brisk as it used to be but a when I walked the lake trail, that was 45 minutes +/- and 3.65 miles. Todays route was maybe 2 miles. The hills , like I said , are murder. Anyway got back from that feeling a little winded but ready to tackle a project or two then a shower…
2. Right now is a good time to break for breakfast. My usual – the cereal bar and big glass of Tang on the back deck. It was not hot out at 7am, actually pretty nice taking a 30 minute cool down and breakfast.
3. I had looked at the flower beds yesterday and the grass is trying to move in on them so it was time to hit them with some grass killer, pull what had to be pulled and clean it up some. So I got that done first. Some of the plants have really taken off from just a month ago.

4. Next I still had some energy so got out the stain and proceeded to coat the cedar frame on the garage doors. Of course that would be easy if they were all “regular” garage doors but one is 14ft tall. That one took a lot of “up and down” on the ladder but i got it stained and sealed for another year or two. looked pretty good but once it drys a little I will see spots that I missed…he!…

Well, while i am at it, I should do the new privacy screen on the south side as well. It is all cedar and needs to be coated too. so I got both sides of this screen oil stained.

By this time it was noon and I was pooped. Got all my stuff put up, cleaned up and went inside to gulp down a big glass of water… well, that and setting in the lounge chair, caused a short nap… so lunch was at 1pm. The afternoon was spent trying not to get outside much, although I did do some sprinkler maintenance to get a bit more water on the flowers. Seems my family that stays home, never checks or has no clue that some are dry some are wet and the water needs to be moved sometimes or reset. They like set it and forget it, well the forget it part anyway…
